I’ve long traveled through the Kentucky countryside, its twisting roads and small towns, looking for photographs. One of those trips took me to the town of New Haven, home of the Kentucky Railway Museum. The first time I went there was with my daughter, when she was four years old, when the museum hosted a Dinosaur Train event, which at the time was one of her favorite shows (she loved her dinosaur toys, and in New Haven, I managed to buy her the last stuffed “Buddy” on the rack). A number of years later, I went back and walked around the old station and among the old train cars. I saw this shadow cast on one of the old cars, creating all these shapes. It is a trick to print, to make sure both the shadow and the blinds in the train window are maintained. It’s a simple abstract built upon a very real scene.
